A day in the Park

Easter Egg Hunt

Bookworm

You are really starting to get more interested in books.  You grab at the pictures on the page, trying to hold onto them, not realizing that they are flat on the page.

Today we went to the library and we read all kinds of books while Ruby was at preschool.  Your favorites were:

"I Know A Rhino", The big book of Beautiful Babies,
and Bunny Dreams

Rice Krispy Queen and Hopscotch Hero

Dear Charlotte,
You are trying out some new textures and seem to like Rice Krispies, but to my surprise, wanted no part of the mashed banana I offered.

We played outside again yesterday- it was beautiful!  Our friend and babysitter Deanna came over and helped you play hopscotch.

Charlotte as a half-pint

Smiley Squirrels turns into a half-pint...

You are certainly taking it all in.  Your first six months have flown by and I think you are headed for greatness.  You are one strong little girl that started observing this wonderful family from an early age.  I think we are your entertainment. You will track our every move and when we look over at you (which is all the time, I mean who cannot help but to baby Charlotte watch... it is a full time activity) you will smile or belly laugh.

I think our favorite activity together (besides just being together) is to practice our vowels.  You like the oooo sound when we get to it and you lock in when you here the start of the AAaaaa.

Well keep up the good work.  Looking forward to exploring this great world with you and passing along everything I know about it.

Have fun!  You'll be a full pint soon!

Happy Half Birthday Baby Charlotte!!

Yesterday we had a half birthday party for you, sweet girl.  You are officially 6 months old!

Time has just flown by.  You are now able to hold toys, sit up for very short period with my arms ready to catch you when you inevitably topple over, and can stand with support for a good while- about 45 seconds.  You babble and giggle constantly.  Your voice is low and sweet like honey to my ears.

We celebrated your birthday last night at dinner by spelling out "Happy Half B-day" in breadstick dough (which, may I add is no easy feat) and baking it in the oven.  Then, just before we ate our homemade vegetable soup for dinner, we put you on the kitchen table in your pink bouncy chair and sang "Happy Birthday Baby Charlotte" to you.  Ruby cried while we were singing because she associates birthday songs with candles, which scare her.  She was happy that it was your half birthday though.

This morning, you participated in your first play tea party with Ruby.  Still no teeth although you are putting up a good cry which I assume must be teething when I've met all of your other needs (not sleepy, hungry, wet, diaper, cold, hot, lonely or otherwise in pain).  No word babble yet either, although I will confess that when I take you to bed at night, I whisper "mama, mama" because I hope it will be your first word!  :) (Even though most babies say dada first, I keep hoping you will ask for me.)  Right now, you are sleeping upstairs giving me some time to write to you.

This month in particular I have re-fallen in love with you, even more than I did before.  It's very hard to explain, but it's like this:  I loved you very much before and thought you were cute.  Now, I cherish and adore you to my very core.  I kiss every wrinkle.  I get butterflies when I can make you laugh and giggle your low, throaty laugh.  I tiptoe into your room just to listen to you sleeping sometimes, even though I usually almost wake you up by accident.. I love to listen to you breathing in your sleep, and watch your sweet eyelids flutter and see you wriggle in your precious baby dreams.  It is true that in these last few weeks, you have solidified our bond completely and have got me wrapped completely around your perfect, tiny little fingers.  Hook, line, and sinker. (Even the whole pole).

Thank you for bringing me such joy.  You fill me with love and make me SO happy every day.  Happy 6 month birthday, baby Charlotte!  I can't wait to watch you grow, talk, and take your first baby steps in this big world.  I'll be there (and so will Daddy!) to catch you when you fall.

-Your mama.

Your eating habits

While continuing to give 4-5 feedings of an iron fortified infant formula (24-32 ounces) and 4 or more tablespoons of an iron fortified cereal each day, you can now start to give well-cooked, strained, or mashed vegetables or commercially prepared baby foods. Start with one tablespoon of a mild tasting vegetable, such as green beans, peas, squash or carrots and gradually increase to 4-5 tablespoons one or two times each day.

  4-5 bottles a day.  Check.
4 tbspns cereal daily. Check.
4-5 tbspns veggies daily.  Check.

Start fruits about a month after starting vegetables and again, gradually increase to 4-5 tablespoons one or two times each day. You can use peeled, cooked, or canned fruits (but only those packed in light syrup or water) that have been blenderized or strained. You can also begin to offer 2-4 ounces of 100% fruit juices. Start by mixing one part juice with two parts of water and offer it in a cup only.

Well, seeing how I'm keeping an eye on your weight, we're skipping the juice and halving the fruits.

Delay giving finger foods or meat and other protein foods until he is eight to nine months old. Some parents start meats earlier, but since many kids don't seem to like baby food meats as much as cereal, fruits, and vegetables, many parents go through all of the varieties of those foods before starting meats, and their baby is usually about eight or nine months old by that time.

Got it.

Maymont Park

You had your first trip to Maymont Park this weekend.  You are getting more comfortable riding in the stroller and your schedule is more predictable, so it's getting easier to go out with you.

Your daily routine is pretty simple:  Wake up at 6-7am, Get diaper and bottle.  Come downstairs and jump in your jumperoo and play with your baby gym.  Have second bottle at 10, take a nap.  Wake up, pick up Ruby from preschool, have solid food around 12:30, bottle at 2, another nap.  Wake up, do activity, have bottle at 6, play until 8, go to bed for the night.

Introducing:  A dictionary of Charlotte's Language

Gooo:  I am perfectly content.  Hello, blue bird.
Heh heh heh:  I'm beginning to get irritatated.  I need something.  I NEED SOMETHING!
SCREECH:  Can mean anything, generally occurs when she can see the bottle but I have not given it to her yet, or she has just finished her bottle and is very upset that there is not more!  (In this case, it is accompanied by the lip pout maneuver)
Ahh  naa aaaaahaa aaaa Ehhh oo low a loo a loww:  Conversational.
