2 weeks old

Dear Charlotte,
You are two weeks old today and it's official- you are a wonderful, beautiful, and easy baby.
You are growing every day and this afternoon, while I was giving you a bath, your umbilical cord finally came off! Yay!

Today is a Hokie football game and you are sporting the hokie bird socks to cheer on the Va Tech Hokies! Daddy is in Blacksburgto be their good luck charm, and Grandpa Sawyer just brought over some rolls for dinner withthe message that the Hokies are ahead 22-0 at the half time, so daddy must be doing his job of cheering loudly.

Tomorrow is your first big outing- it is your cousin Ellie's 4th birthday party and we are all going! You and Maddie will have lots to discuss and I hope someday you will be as close of friends as Ruby and Ellie are. I'm so glad that all 4 of you girls are growing up together!

The nights aren't as bad as I feared they would be- you still get up every 2-3 hours but are fairly predictable and daddy is helping a lot, especially with your big sister.

I love you, little one.

Charlotte in the Nursery

Your Daddy

This is your sweet daddy on the night you were born.

Sleepyhead

Dear Charlotte,

You are a sleepyhead! Your brain is busy growing neurons and firing messages to all of your synapses. It's telling your tiny fingers and toes to stretch and your little body to grow. You sleep almost all the time right now, you only wake up about every 2-4 hours to eat, have a quick diaper change, and maybe sneak a few smiles. So far you are a wonderful and easy baby!

Daddy helps at night when I can't figure out why you are crying- he is so calm and gentle and I think that settles you down. Ruby still wants to raise you herself... she just wants to "help" and did a really great job helping with your bath the other night.

We're battling a little diaper rash which makes diaper changes a time of tears and makes me feel bad- I don't want to hurt your little bum. Hopefully that will clear up soon.

Love you,
Mom

Welcome To the World!

Dear Charlotte,

On September 12th, 2009 you came into the world! I delivered you after a "precipitous labor"-which means you just couldn't wait to get out... even poor daddy couldn't get home fast enough! You are so beautiful!

Grandma Hatch luckily was down visiting and got us to the hospital just in time. She cut your cord! Everyone talks about your dark hair!

Your name is Charlotte Lucille Sawyer- We named you Lucille after your daddy's grandmother Lucille and I have a great Aunt Lucille. You weighed 7 lbs and 13 oz and were 20 inches long. You have lush and gorgeous brown hair and dark eyes that look like the shape of daddy's eyes. You have my nose, but mostly you look like your daddy!
When you cry, you sound like a little bird and I call you "C-bird". So far, you are an easy baby and tolerant of even your big sister Ruby learning about you. She is learning to be gentle and just wants to touch you all the time. She says you are "So cute, beebee".

I am so blessed by you and your arrival makes us a family of four. I can't wait to see you explore your world with your dad, your sister, Spiegel the dog, and me.. your Mom.

Love, Mom
